DataPitch

Information technology is well established in the European economy and has driven, directly or indirectly, much of the economic and social growth during the last decades. The increasing ubiquity of computing devices, empowered and connected to each other via high-bandwidth Internet, recording every aspect of life from private households to multi-national corporations and government, is driving a new industrial revolution. This revolution is centred on the availability of, and access to, ever increasing amounts of data.

DataPitch is a data innovation lab led by the University of Southampton funded by the EC Horizon 2020 framework, which will further accelerate the growth of the European digital economy. It will help businesses, from sector leaders to new start-ups, unlock the commercial value of data.

Big Data Digital Innovation Platforms

IT Innovation leads the work on provisioning the Big Data infrastructure to host data for experimentation. This work builds on the expertise on addressing Big Data challenges and infrastructure set-up, such as in the XIFI project, which set up a pan-European sustainable Future Internet test infrastructure.

IT Innovation is also recognised as the expert on the technical analysis of Big Data, engaging with stakeholders in order to determine the key challenges pertaining to accessing and exploiting big data that should be addressed in the competitive calls in the project.
