FIESTA

FIESTA logo

The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming all aspects of the economy through greater access to data monitoring human and environmental activity.

The IoT infrastructures delivering this data are evolving from closed systems designed for a specific purpose to open systems where data can be exploited by companies, entrepreneurs and researchers.

Big Data Digital Innovation Platforms

FIESTA is developing and operating testing services providing access to IoT infrastructures for application and service providers to accelerate the research and development of new data oriented solutions. New data value chains building on observations from environment, building and transport sensors, along with crowdsourced data will be created and exploited.

By adopting emerging IoT architectures, standards and brokering solutions, FIESTA will increase the interconnection and interoperability of diverse IoT infrastructures that allow for large scale integrated tests. The technical advances FIESTA will deliver will include:

  • A portal providing a single point of access to European IoT infrastructure
  • Middleware services for semantic interoperability of heterogeneous IoT data including crowdsourced observations
  • Policy management tools and templates supporting representative data value chains dealing with constraints of open, closed and personal data
  • Best practices guidance and compliance testing tools for integration of IoT infrastructures

IT Innovation have extensive experience in distributed systems interoperability including the development of testing tools for the FI-WARE middleware platform as part of the XIFI project. IT Innovation will further advance interoperability tools and techniques towards IoT infrastructures supporting efficient and effective compliance testing including protocol handling, message semantics and performance characteristics.

IT Innovation are leaders in the application of data security and privacy technologies in sectors as diverse as media, healthcare, engineering, environment and clouds through projects such as OPTET, Fed4FIRE and OPERANDO. Understanding rights and constraints associated with access to open, closed and personal data is essential for developing successful IoT applications. IT Innovation will research and develop policy tools and techniques for protection of IoT data assets and assessment of complex policies for data value chains depending on open, closed and personal data.
